Emergency Cardiac Care
Our emergency department care team is always on call. We are available for emergency cardiac care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Emergency heart catheterization saves lives during heart attacks, while pacemaker implantation is crucial for severe heart rhythm disorders. No matter when you are experiencing a cardiac emergency, we are here for you.
Congestive Heart Failure
Heart failure is generally due to the heart becoming too weak or stiff. This can result in poor blood flow to the body’s vital organs and elevated pressures in the heart and lungs, ultimately leading to congestion (abnormal fluid build-up in the chest, abdomen and extremities).
Symptoms include shortness of breath, fatigue and swelling. Everyday activities such as walking, climbing stairs or carrying groceries can become very difficult. Our cardiac rehabilitation team provides services that are important to your treatment and recovery plan.
Heart Rhythm Management
Electrophysiology (EP) specializes in heart rhythm disorders. Heart rhythm disorders can be complex and cause conditions as severe as heart failure and sudden death. They can also cause uncomfortable symptoms like fast heartbeat, tiredness, difficulty breathing, chest discomfort, dizziness or fainting.
Our specialists provide a range of services related to heart health. These include tests, monitors, procedures for the heart, and the implantation of heart devices like pacemakers and defibrillators.
Interventional Cardiology
Interventional cardiologists perform various leading interventional treatments and diagnostic tests. The methods used in this field include different procedures to diagnose and treat heart conditions.
The techniques may include:
- Angioplasty
- Aortic valve replacement
- Heart stent implantation
- Intravascular ultrasound
- Repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms
- Vascular closure devices
In addition, a range of medications are often combined with interventional procedures to improve initial results and long-term effectiveness.
Preventative Cardiology
We are passionate about treating and preventing heart and vascular disease. You can often prevent heart attack, stroke and sudden cardiac death. Identifying your risk is the first step with diagnostic testing and imaging. Maintaining a healthy diet, exercise routine, low stress levels and good sleep habits can also help prevent heart disease.
There are several classic risk factors for heart attack. The strongest of these include diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking and genetics (family history of early heart disease). Others include obesity, inactive lifestyle and conditions causing inflammation. These diseases are the most common cause of death and disability in America.
If you fall into an intermediate risk group, you may benefit from other testing, such as heart calcium scoring. Heart calcium scoring can be a powerful tool in helping to identify your risk of heart attack.
Left Atrial Appendage Closure Device
The Watchman™ left atrial appendage closure device. This device protects against strokes for atrial fibrillation patients who cannot take blood thinners. The Watchman™ device lowers stroke risk without requiring long-term use of blood thinning medication.
We perform this procedure at a hospital. Our skilled team will carefully put the device in the left atrial appendage. After the implantation, they will closely monitor you overnight to ensure a successful outcome.
If you have atrial fibrillation and want an alternative to blood thinners, talk to your cardiologist about the Watchman™ device. They can assess your situation and determine if this treatment option suits you.
