The Bellin Health Athletic Training Residency Program is a one-year immersive program that begins in July of every year. This is a limited term (1 year), full time salaried position. This residency program provides the athletic training resident with educational and real-world opportunities in the clinical, outreach and industrial settings.
Mission
To provide the athletic training resident a comprehensive, immersive experience that enhances the knowledge and skills of an athletic trainer within the disciplines of clinical, outreach and industrial settings. The aim is to develop a multifaceted healthcare professional that delivers exceptional patient care in a variety of settings. Through clinical, outreach and industrial athletic training experience supplemented by didactic education, the resident will find their path as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team.

Who Should Apply
To qualify for admission to the Bellin Health Athletic Training Residency Program, applicants must have:
- Certification from the BOC and in good standing
- Athletic Training Licensure (or eligibility) in the State of Wisconsin
- Current certification in BLS (or equivalent) CPR/AED
- NPI Number
- Must have valid driver’s license and satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR)
Applications are accepted from January 2 through March 15
Once applications are received, applicants will be contacted for phone interview(s) and references will be checked. Appropriate candidates will be invited for a formal interview in March pending scheduling of applicant and program committee members.

Residency Program Goals
Goal 1: Advance the athletic training resident’s knowledge and skills to become a versatile healthcare professional that enhances patient-centered care and outcomes within the settings of clinical, outreach and industrial settings.
Goal 2: To further develop the athletic training resident into a leader in the field by increasing their multidisciplinary skills, such as communication, interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork. To develop the athletic training resident to act as an advocate for the field and future growth of the profession of athletic training.
Goal 3: Advance critical thinking abilities through analyzing, synthesizing and ultimately applying the information gained through this immersive experience and didactic education to advance athletic training practice and optimize patient care and outcomes.
Residency Program Objectives
Objective 1: Provide structured, comprehensive educational programming, in addition to hands-on athletic training experiences and mentorship training in the clinical, outreach and industrial athletic training settings.
Objective 2: Possess skills needed to deliver patient-centered care as members of an interdisciplinary team, emphasizing evidence-based practice, quality improvement approaches, healthcare informatics and professionalism.
Objective 3: Provide an environment that requires interdisciplinary collaboration amongst members of the clinical, outreach or industrial practice teams.
Program Outcomes
Outcome 1: Advance the athletic training resident’s knowledge within the specialty area of orthopedics, with an advanced focus in the clinical, outreach and industrial settings.

Outcome 3: The athletic training resident will acquire leadership skills through interpersonal communications and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Outcome 4: The Athletic Training Resident will contribute to the athletic training profession by conducting research, teaching others and acting as a leader and advocate for others within the athletic training profession.

Outcome 5: Employment placement within six months of completion of athletic training residency program and then tracked additionally at two and five years post residency.
Athletic Training Residency Program Sample Calendar
Each of the three settings will have their own primary, secondary and tertiary focuses throughout the yearlong residency experience.
For example, in the month of August, the primary focus will be the outreach setting, the secondary focus will be the clinical setting and the tertiary focus will be the industrial setting. For the month of January, the industrial setting will be the primary focus, the outreach setting will be the secondary focus and the clinical setting will be the tertiary focus.
Athletic training residents will complete on average three to five hours of didactic education per week.
This position will average 32-40 hours/week between discipline assignments, didactic education and mentoring hours.
