Unique to our area, offering provides tailored, empowering care for teen patients
Bellin Health will introduce a new clinic June 1 that is the first of its kind in Northeast Wisconsin to offer a tailored approach to addressing the multifaceted healthcare needs of teens and adolescents.
The Bellin Health Adolescent Team will provide these patients a warm, welcoming place to share their healthcare needs, concerns and questions in a supportive environment. Initially staffed two half-days per week within the existing Bellin Health De Pere East clinic, the Adolescent Team will be poised for growth in future years, said Bellin Health Pediatrician Dr. Sherri Hoyman.
“We know adolescents have different healthcare needs than our younger pediatric patients, and it is important to address those needs in a safe, empowering environment,” Dr. Hoyman said. “This clinic will allow us to better connect with our adolescent patients in a space that allows them to speak frankly and work with us to proactively address key facets of their overall health.”
Dr. Hoyman and Bellin Health Physician Assistant Kim Shefchik will be the clinic’s providers. They will be supported by a robust Bellin Health team that will help them provide quick access to Case Management, Physical Therapy, Behavioral Health services and other areas as necessary.
“The healthcare needs of today’s adolescents are wide-ranging, from physical and mental health to sexuality and fostering healthy relationships,” Shefchik said. “This is a place where teens can be teens and get the care they need – no matter what their healthcare priority or concern.”
Bellin Health continues to increase its focus on the healthcare needs of adolescents, recently earning Adolescent Centered Environment Gold Certification at its East De Pere, Marinette and Iron Mountain clinics. This designation, developed and facilitated by the University of Michigan’s Adolescent Health Initiative, is a comprehensive self-assessment and guided improvement process designed to minimize barriers and improve the delivery of care to adolescents.
Patients may be referred to the Bellin Health Adolescent Team through their existing Bellin Health provider or via their MyBellinHealth account, or by contacting the clinic directly at (920) 338-6830.
