What is BPH?
BPH is a common condition in which a male's prostate gland is enlarged. BPH is not cancerous and cannot be sexually transmitted.
Common BPH Symptoms
Difficulty urinating, weak urine stream, urgency to urinate, leaking urine and urinating more frequently, especially at night, are all symptoms of BPH. Severe BPH can lead to infections or bladder and kidney damage.
How is BPH Diagnosed?
BPH is diagnosed with a digital rectal examination, or prostate exam. Urine tests may be done to evaluate for incomplete bladder emptying due to an obstruction as a result of an enlarged prostate. Blood tests may also be done to rule out prostate cancer.
How is BPH Treated?
Treatment for BPH can range anywhere from lifestyle changes, such as drinking less fluids at night, to more serious treatments, such as medication or surgery. Consult with your provider about which treatment option is right for you.
Aquablation Therapy
Through the use of a camera, an ultrasound and a heat-free saline solution, the Aquablation procedure can remove the enlarged section of the prostate that is causing your symptoms using minimally invasive techniques. This procedure is done while the patient is under anesthesia and provides quicker recovery, less bleeding and lower rates of post-operative complications.
Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE)
Our Interventional Radiology team is proud to offer Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE). This innovative, outpatient and minimally invasive treatment shrinks the prostate gland, alleviating urinary system symptoms.
