Struggling to breathe doing every day activities? Our pulmonologists will work with you and your primary care provider to diagnose and treat conditions of the respiratory system.
Bellin Health offers the largest and most technologically advanced pulmonology team in Northeast Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, providing expert direct-patient and critical care in many of our region’s locations. Our pulmonologists specialize in diagnosing and treating all lung conditions and diseases in the respiratory system.
We offer extensive testing services to properly assess and diagnose our patients’ conditions.
Pulmonary Function Testing
Pulmonary Function Testing involves a variety of instruments that measure and assess lung capacity, the lungs’ ability to absorb and excrete oxygen and carbon dioxide and the amount and speed of air that can be inhaled and exhaled.
Exercise Physiology Testing
These tests involve physical movement to evaluate stress, oxygen levels, respiratory muscle strength and metabolism. Tests can include the use of Infrared lights, sensors, treadmills and EKG machines.
Our specialized team works with you to develop a rehabilitation plan that teaches you how you exercise safely with your lung condition, manage your symptoms, learn about your condition and treatment options and experience improved breathing effort and overall quality of life. Typically, programs require patients to come in once or twice a week for four to 18 weeks, and it all starts with a six-minute walking assessment to establish your condition. We offer pulmonary rehab services via referral from a primary care provider. If you are interested in pulmonary rehab, talk with your provider to get started.
Our pulmonary rehabilitation program is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR), so rest assured you will receive the highest level of care from our team.
Patient education is emphasized and is a large part of our pulmonary rehab program. You will learn about:
- Oxygen therapy
- Breathing retraining and other strategies for improved breathing
- Importance of safe exercise
- Psychological and stress assessments and counseling
- Diet and nutrition
- Medications and medication side effects
- Other related conditions you may have, including diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and more
- Smoking cessation
- Other patients’ stories and experiences
Most insurance companies will cover some or all of your pulmonary rehab services, and we are happy to work with you as you contact your insurance company to verify coverage.
