Astronaut Sunita Williams, whose plight became known worldwide when she was stranded in space last year, will be the keynote speaker for the 11th annual Bellin Women’s Half Marathon & 5K Women’s Inspiration Dinner on Friday, Oct. 3. Williams will address participants and guests during the annual dinner and cheer for runners as they cross the finish line on race day, Oct. 4.
Williams embodies the spirit of this year’s event theme: FIERCE. A veteran of three space missions and holder of the record for the most spacewalk time among female astronauts, Williams is a shining example of professional dedication, pioneering spirit and commitment to physical fitness. Her remarkable achievements, including a recent mission that went from a 10-day stay to nine months, makes her the perfect fit to inspire our community of runners and supporters.
A longtime runner, Williams made history by running a virtual Boston Marathon on the International Space Station treadmill while the actual race took place on Earth. Even in the most extraordinary circumstances, she has a unique passion for fitness and ability to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
“We are honored to have Astronaut Sunita Williams join us for the Women’s Inspiration Dinner,” said Linda Maxwell, Race Director. “Her story is a powerful true example of what it means to be FIERCE – to push beyond limits, overcome challenges and inspire others through actions.”
The Women’s Inspiration Dinner is included with registration for the 2025 Bellin Women’s half marathon and half marathon relay. For 5K participants and guests, dinner tickets are available as an add-on purchase.
