Iconic event adds 5K option to get more feet on the street
Organizers of the iconic Bellin Run 10K are announcing a brand-new 5K (3.1-mile) option for the 47th annual event on Saturday, June 10, 2023. Registration is now open for both distances — and excitement is mounting.
“We have heard loud and clear that more of our friends and family members want to be a part of the Bellin Run – but that for some, including younger children, the full 6.2-mile distance may not be doable to run or walk,” said executive race director Randy Van Straten. “At the same time, we know there are some speedy runners out there who want to test themselves on a shorter course — and adding this new distance gives them a way to do that while still being a part of our event. No matter what their motivation, adding the 5K distance will get more feet on the street in the name of health and wellness — and that is exactly what the Bellin Run is all about.”
Since its inception in 1977, the Bellin Run 10K has traversed a little-changed course that starts and ends at Bellin Hospital, winding through the beautiful neighborhoods of Green Bay and Allouez. It is one of the largest 10K events in the country. The Bellin Run’s new 5K course will share roughly the first mile with its 10K counterpart before turning down Beaupre Street and rejoining the 10K course on Libal Street for the final approximately 1.5 miles. All Bellin Run registrants will receive an official Bellin Run technical T-shirt featuring this year’s custom logo.
“Our participants look forward to our new logo each year, and we are thrilled that this year’s version includes our brand-new 5K event,” said assistant race director Linda Maxwell. “Our race shirts serve as a very visible sign of our community’s commitment to getting feet on the street.”
Bellin Run participants are well supported in their training, with free, weekly training run/walk events beginning March 29.
