National accolade recognizes commitment to providing safer care
Bellin Hospital has been awarded an ‘A’ in the fall 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing Bellin’s achievements in protecting patients from harm and providing safer healthcare.
The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization driven by employers and other purchasers of healthcare committed to improving healthcare quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to all general hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.
“Nothing is more important than keeping our patients safe,” said Chris Woleske, Bellin Health president and CEO. “We are constantly looking for ways to improve and innovate in this area, relying on employee expertise, education and the latest in medical technology to help us ensure our patients have the best, safest experience possible.”
Added Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group:
“ ‘A’ hospitals show us their leadership is protecting patients from preventable medical harm and error. It takes genuine commitment at every level — from clinicians to administrators to the board of directors — and we congratulate the teams who have worked so hard to earn this A.”
Bellin Hospital works diligently to ensure patient safety remains top of mind for every employee, said Bellin Chief Medical Officer Cynthia Lasecki, MD.
“The front page of our employee intranet prominently displays important safety statistics, along with links to more information,” Dr. Lasecki said. “It’s just one of the many ways we remind our team that safety is everyone’s responsibility.”
