Bellin Hospital Earns Leapfrog Safety ‘A’
Award recognizes commitment to providing safer care
Bellin Hospital has been awarded an ‘A’ in the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, a national distinction recognizing Bellin’s achievements providing safer healthcare. It is the only Green Bay-area hospital to earn an ‘A’ grade for this grading cycle.
“Nothing is more important than the safety of our patients, and our incredible team of providers, staff and volunteers works tirelessly to ensure our hospital is a safe place to come for care,” said Bellin Health President & CEO Chris Woleske. “We have faced new challenges during the pandemic, but these dedicated individuals have continued to make patient safety job one. I can’t thank them enough for all they do.”
The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to healthcare quality and safety. The Safety Grade is a letter grade assigned to all general hospitals across the country and updated every six months, assessing how well the hospital prevents medical errors and other harms to patients.
“It’s clear Bellin Hospital is on a never-ending quest to keep patients safe through thick and thin,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “This likely saved many lives through the pandemic and prepared for future health emergencies. I thank Bellin Hospital for leadership and inspiration in these trying times.”
The Safety Grade assigns letter grades of “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” and “F” to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections, and other harms. Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses up to 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,700 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Leapfrog Group’s grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public.
