Bellin, Dickinson to Sponsor Pine Mountain Ski Jump

Annual event draws international competitors, 20,000 spectators

IRON MOUNTAIN, MICH. — Bellin Health and Dickinson County Healthcare System are the proud sponsors of Upper Michigan’s premier ski jumping event, which will be held Saturday, Feb. 25 and Sunday, Feb. 26.

The 2017 Bellin Health Pine Mountain Continental Cup ski jumping competition will take place at Pine Mountain Golf & Ski Resort. The event draws local and global competitors — jumpers from the United States, Austria, Poland, Norway, Slovenia, Great Britain, Switzerland, Germany, Finland and the Czech Republic are either scheduled to participate or have expressed interest in this year’s event.

Nearly 20,000 spectators annually attend the ski jump event, taking in the competition and enjoying tailgating, live music and a festive atmosphere. This year’s festivities will include recipes from four finalists of a healthy tailgate cook-off presented by Bellin, Dickinson and the Kiwanis Ski Club. The contest’s winner will be announced during the competition on Feb. 25.

Bellin has sponsored the ski jump since 2010. The health system’s support helps fund the event while continuing Bellin’s ongoing efforts to extend goodwill to its Upper Peninsula friends and neighbors.

In 2016, Bellin Health Partners, a clinically integrated delivery system, and Dickinson County Healthcare System entered into a collaborative clinical relationship focused on improving care and reducing healthcare costs. Leaders from both health systems say they’re happy to be sharing the sponsorship.

“The ski jump is a significant international event, and it’s also very important — and a great source of enjoyment — for the local community,” said Linda Roethle, Bellin Health vice president of regional business development. “We are happy to be a part of this event and proud to pair with Dickinson to sponsor it.”

The Pine Mountain Ski Jump is one of the highest artificially created ski jumps in the world. It is part of the Kiwanis Ski Club.
