Bellin’s Miller is Physician Assistant of the Year

Wisconsin Academy of Physician Assistants bestows annual honor

The Wisconsin Academy of Physician Assistants has named Bellin Health’s Bart Miller, PA-C, as its physician assistant of the year.

The annual award honors an outstanding physician assistant who demonstrates excellence in service to patients and the community, promotes awareness of the PA’s role in healthcare to the general public, and bolsters workforce development by educating potential future PAs.  It was presented to Miller at WAPA’s annual awards banquet on Oct. 8 in Elkhart Lake, Wis.

"We are thrilled to honor Bart Miller as Wisconsin’s 2015 PA of the Year,” said Jean Fischer, MPAS, PA-C, chair of the selection committee. “We received many outstanding nominations this year, and after a difficult time narrowing the field, we selected Bart, an extremely deserving individual, for the honor.”

Miller, a bilingual provider, has been a member of the care team at Bellin Health’s Family Medical Center and Clinica Hispaña in Green Bay for the past five years. The clinic provides primary care services for English- and Spanish-speaking patients and families.

Within his nomination, Miller’s supervising physician and nominator, Jo Watson, MD, noted that he does not seek out accolades, but is well-deserving.

“Bart is not flashy. He does not self-promote. He is not achievement-driven,” she wrote. “Day-to-day, however, he exhibits all that is excellent, honorable and compassionate in the practice of medicine.”
In accepting his award, Miller shared a few personal remarks.

“I’m not doing anything special, but I’m a part of something special. PAs are truly special,” he said. “It takes a special person to work in healthcare today. I love being a PA. It is the greatest decision I’ve ever made.”
