Ergonomics Consultation
Bellin Health's Ergonomic & Rehabilitation team improves work environments by providing ergonomic resources. In the work environment, our team completes industrial and office ergonomic assessments and provides recommendations to minimize risks. This includes equipment, employee behaviors, and administrative control options for change. This includes adjusting desk height, monitor and keyboard positioning, using gel supports, and adjusting lighting.
Physical & Occupational Therapy
Bellin Health's Ergonomics & Rehabilitation team includes physical and occupational therapists, along with athletic trainers. These therapists have expertise in muscles, bones, and body movement, helping them treat work-related muscle and bone issues. By combining their knowledge, they have successfully reduced OSHA recordable strains and sprains.
Prevention & Early Intervention Programs
The Ergonomics & Rehabilitation team at Bellin Health dedicates itself to preventing workplace injuries and delivering high-quality care through its injury prevention initiatives. They operate an Early Intervention (EI) program that effectively manages injuries without the need for documentation. This team can help prevent injuries by using job descriptions to identify important tasks and provide extra resources.
They also concentrate on ergonomics in both industrial and office environments to detect and mitigate risks. They do evaluations called Physical Risk Assessments (PRAs) to make sure people can do their job safely.
Training in body mechanics emphasizes altering the work postures of individuals to carry out a task securely. Conditioning particular muscles for job-related tasks aids workers in readying their bodies for safe and efficient labor.
Work Hardening - Workers’ Compensation Service
We developed this program for people who suffered work-related injuries. For those who finished therapy but aren't ready to work full-time yet.
The program offers various therapies such as physical and occupational therapy, counseling, and support from the employer and provider. It helps with muscles, fitness, job tasks, and pain.
It also helps with managing cases and finding things that might be stopping the person from getting better. The program assists injured workers in improving and teaches them how to prevent future injuries.
Part of our work hardening programming includes collecting Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) as part of clinical care. The information gathered allows us to improve our ability to provide patient-centered care and complete quality improvement work.
Functional Retraining - Non-Workers’ Compensation Service
Our program assists individuals who have sustained non-work-related injuries and have completed their regular therapy. However, they are still not prepared to return to their full-time employment. The program helps workers practice work tasks, build strength, and stretch to get back to their previous level of ability.
Functional Capacity Evaluation - Workers’ Compensation/Non-Workers’ Compensation Service
A Functional Capacity Evaluation is a thorough assessment to determine how much an individual can safely do at work. The ErgoScience method uses a test with over 30 tasks to measure strength, mobility, balance, and coordination. The provider can use the FCE results to write work restrictions, complete disability forms, or decide when healing is done.
Brief Functional Assessment - Workers’ Compensation /Non-Workers’ Compensation Service
We can compare the worker’s physical abilities to what their job needs. The provider can utilize this information to establish work rules and determine the necessity of a return-to-work program. A BFA assesses physical abilities like lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, working overhead, bending, kneeling, balance, and climbing ladders. However, it is not as detailed as a functional capacity evaluation.
